The form of abrasives grits coverage is significant for coated abrasives manufacturing. the various coverage method will benefit to improve the polishing quality for workpieces.
Coated abrasives are generally manufactured in two levels of abrasive grits surface density , such as close-coat and open coat. A closed coat product is one in which the abrasives grits completely cover the coat side surface of the backing for extended cutting life as well as the production of smoother sanded surfaces. The greater number of abrading points per square inch normally results in a large amount of material being removed before the product becomes too worn to be usable . Generally used when loading is not a problem.
An open coat provides 50 to 70% coverage of product face, with many small open spaces between the grains to minimize loading and improve cutting aggressiveness.
